Critical Anticipation Studies explores how the ways we imagine, expect, fear, desire, and prepare for the future shape what emerges in the present. Rather than treating the future as something waiting to happen, CAS examines anticipation as an active force: embedded in our decisions, institutions, technologies, cultures, bodies, and everyday practices.
Drawing across futures studies, philosophy, social science, design, ecology, culture, and the arts, CAS investigates whose futures become imaginable, which assumptions guide our actions, and how different anticipatory practices might open or close possibilities for flourishing. It develops both critical perspectives and practical approaches for recognising, questioning, and reshaping the ways in which futures are brought into being.
Confluence Blue is the practice ground for this inquiry: a place where anticipatory ideas can be experienced, tested, challenged, and transformed through sensory, social, ecological, and creative practice.

Confluence Blue is the practice ground of Critical Anticipation Studies: a place for exploring how different ways of sensing, imagining, and experiencing the world can change the futures we bring into being.
Sensonomy is the deliberate use of sensory and emotional experience as a way of knowing, exploring and shaping possible futures. Through touch, scent, taste, sight, sound, emotion, movement, place and shared experience, we experiment with ways of perceiving and relating that extend beyond predominantly cognitive approaches to the future.
Our horizon is the Symbiocene: Glenn Albrecht's term for an era in which human flourishing becomes inseparable from reciprocal relationships with the living world. Confluence Blue does not attempt to predict that future. It explores how we might begin practising it.
